The Zoological Society of Washington is a 501(c)3, non-profit, tax-exempt, charitable organization. The mission of the Society is to increase the understanding and appreciation of the earth’s wildlife and the role of humanity in nature through supporting education, research, captive breeding, conservation and exhibition.

The Zoological Society of Washington supports and promotes Zoological entities, educational institutions, organizations and conservation projects with objectives similar to the objectives of the Society. The Membership of the Zoological Society of Washington is made up of a broad cross section of individuals and business entities sharing a deep concern for the preservation of wildlife and the natural world.
